Zeus is safe. He is loved. But he isn’t healed. Twice-weekly vet visits continue, the bills keep coming and the freedom he’d only just discovered has been put on hold. His world may be smaller for now, but we’re doing everything we can to keep it full while we wait for his body to heal.

Rescue doesn’t end when a dog finds a home. For Zeus, it became twice-weekly vet visits, thousands in treatment, hours on the road and a family rearranging life around his recovery. The real cost of saying “yes” to a rescue Dog doesn’t fit neatly on an invoice.

Twelve weeks into Zeus’s rehabilitation, we found a lump. It was cancer. What followed was a choice no foster family expects to face: take on his treatment ourselves, or lose him. This is the moment Zeus stopped being our foster Dog & became family

Nine years of isolation couldn’t be undone in twelve weeks. Zeus had to learn how to trust people, meet Dogs, explore new places & feel safe in a world that overwhelmed him. This is what his rehabilitation really looked like — and how the Dog underneath all that fear finally began to emerge.

Nine years in a backyard. Twelve weeks to prepare him for a new life. That was the plan. But somewhere between teaching Zeus how to trust, explore and simply be a Dog, everything changed. This is the beginning of a rescue story none of us could have predicted.
